How long does it take a toe nail to grow back?
Q. My 4yr old got her toe caught in the vaccuum and we took a trip to the ER . They removed the nail from her 2nd toe. How long should it take to grow back?

A. I could see a nail coming in as early as six weeks after removing my toenail(I had surgery on my toe requiring the nail to be removed). Until the toe is back filling out the nail bed takes about 3 months...

How long does a toe nail take to grow back?
Q. Haha, I know this is kinda gross but I dropped a textbook on my toe during the school year. It hurt and left a bruise. The bruise got worse and half of my nail fell off. It doesn't hurt, (except today when I caught it on the sheets of my bed and it ripped part of it until it bled, but that got me thinking about it) It's been three months, should a toe really take this long to heal? Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing?

A. Yes, toe nails take 3-4 months to grow out. i am a nail tech at a top spa. We see it all runners, ballerinas all sporto's hurt their toe nails. you may have damaged the nail bed, which could make your nail grow in funky, But if its just taking a long time to grow out, dont be alarmed. Toe nails can take 6 months to completely regrow from cuticle to the front of the toe. Patience, grasshopper!

What happens after an ingrown toe nail surgery?
Q. By surgery I mean the podiatrist removes your toe nail (in my case the big toe), what happens after? Can you wear a sock and your regular shoe and go on with the daily routine or do you have to pay special attention to your toe. Do you always need to put a special band aid or always keep it covered? I'm getting my toe nail removed tomorrow so I'd appreciate some advice for anybody who has gone through it, thank you!

A. Both big toes!!! Ill keep it short and simple =) I was 17 I wore thongs for a few days. Had cream, I didnt have a bandage, Getting it done - needles hurt a bit (nothing compare to the pain of the ingrown) but once the numbness kicks in your fine, and make sure you cut your toe nails straight to aviod it occuring again!!

How do I treat a big toe after the whole nail came off?
Q. My husbands toe nail came off the other day, what is the best way to treat it and take care of the toe? Also, how long will it take for the nail to fully grow back?
Asked by cat lover - Fri Aug 20 08:57:46 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on why the toenail fell off. If it's from an injury, no problem. Just make sure to keep it bandaged so it doesn't get infected. The new nail should grow back completely within a few months. If he has a toenail fungus, an anti-fungal treatment is definitely recommended so it can get the infection out to prevent further problems.

Would my toe nail grow back if it the whole nail itself fell out leaving me with just red skin?
Q. I was playing a lot of tennis lately and my toe nail peeled off leaving me with just bare skin... I'm scared it won't grow back. Also I grew a double nail on one of my toes? Its like a nail grown on top of another nail, similar to a double tooth, I don't know if that makes sense but what would happen of that?

A. I would soak it for a while because it is going to fall off anyway. I would soak if for like 2 hours and try peeling it off. it will grow back. a nail usually grows about 1-3mm per day in a healthy person.. Good luck!

Q. my big toe s throbbing and i have an ingrown toe nail what should i do?

A. i'm so sorry for you. well if it isn't that bad, then you can soak it in a warm/hot bucket of water with bath salts in it. wear open toed shoes for a while, and hopefully it will get better. it also helps if you don't cut your nail straight across, but curve it instead. if it doesn't get better and becomes really unbearable, you might want to go to a podiatrist. they will freeze it and take out the ingrown part and cauterize it so that the ingrown part never comes back. i recommend a licensed podiatrist as opposed to a chiropodist, they tend to do a better job. good luck with it!

A. In sharing the same experience a few times, I empathize with your pain and concerns. "A long time" would be pretty accurate, as I never counted the days, and the growth will offer pain in every time you bump it for awhile. On a lighter note and please don't take offense,,, It will grow back, in fact our hair and nails are two things that continue to grow for a period even after death. Now the light note, Ya can't keep chewin on that toenail and expect it ta grow back as quick as if ya left it alone,,,smiles. Good healing wishes to you. Rev. Steven

Had a bleeding toe, decided to remove the entire toe nail is it neccesary to follow with a doctor?
Q. I stubbed my toe earlier today, it was bleeding under the nail so I removed the entire thing (it was chiped on the side) I disinfected it as well. Should I go to the doctor to get it checked it out or is it nothing to worry about?

A. blood flow is weakest at the extremities. if you choose not to go see a doc, keep a sharp eye for pain and infection. If you have any sense at all that the toe is getting infected, do not delay in seeing a doc. It is much harder to deal with an infection that has a foot hold (pun intended!) Hope all works out well for you!

Is it ok to wear nail vanish on short finger nails and really, really short toe nails?
Q. Also do finger and toe nail colours need to match? What sort of patterns would look good on short nails.
Asked by Bite Me... - Wed Jul 30 18:48:06 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I actually usually prefer the look of shorter polished fingernails - I think you can wear any color on them without it looking over-the-top. I don't think they need to match toes, but I usually try to keep the two different colors either in the same family (i.e. pink and rose) or two very different colors that work together (i.e. pink and blue). I'm not sure what you mean by really really short toe nails, except that I don't care for the trend towards longish ones. I just trim and file mine to a comfortable length, close to or at the end of my toe.

How can I make a toe nail grow back?
Q. When i was a child I always had "door accidents." I've lost my smallest toe nail for like more than 5 times. I am now 23 and it hasn't grown back. It doesn't hurt because the nail bed's skin is now thick. I didn't worry about it that much back then but now I think I want it back, but how? Is it possible? Thanks for any help.

A. A little over a year ago, when we were moving, my mom completely ripped her big toenail off when she tried picking up a big chair. It has slowly grown back. Not as full&thick as it use to be, buhh close to it. i honestly dont know about youre situation considering youve lost it more than 5 times&youre 23&it hasnt grown back. I would say dont count on it growing back. &if it somehow does, its going to take a long time. Buhh dont worry or stress over it too much I mean hey its only your pinky toe(:

Loosing a toe nail and there is a strong odor?
Q. I smashed my big toe about a month ago, all around the nail was swollen with blood and that finally popped. I went to the Dr a few days after it had happened nothing was broke, he just said I would loose the nail, it is loose except for one side. Today I had noticed a very strong odor coming from it. Around the inner side of the nail it is black and underneath is black. Does this sound normal for loosing a nail?
Asked by sweet_n_sassy2204 - Fri Nov 21 20:48:11 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That sounds normal. I lost 2 toe nails a few years ago, and it smelled really bad when it fell off. It's not very pleasant, but it won't last much longer. When it completely falls off the odor will go away! I wouldn't worry about an infection like the other people are saying unless you notice your actual toe turning red, or a worsening in how swollen it is. . Just the odor alone doesn't sound like a problem--or at least it wasn't in my case.

A. I had mine done on the 04 March 2010 ... pretty recently . first they run you through it any way. They cover your toe/foot in benatine (diluted iodine) they spray a very cold spray on your toe then they administer 2 injections to numb your toe. They wait a while and do a test to see if you can feel pain they put a rubber ring on your toe ( Tourniquet) Then they cut your toe nail down to the bottom and pull it out. They then push a acid in to burn away the root of the nail. Then they dress it. I am 12 years old and I haven't had any pain at all. I had both sides of a nail done and its still not hurting. I am wearing shoes already. If you do as your told and go straight home and rest it it reduces the pain as my podiatrist told me. He… [cont.]
