How long does a toe nail take to grow back?
Q. Haha, I know this is kinda gross but I dropped a textbook on my toe during the school year. It hurt and left a bruise. The bruise got worse and half of my nail fell off. It doesn't hurt, (except today when I caught it on the sheets of my bed and it ripped part of it until it bled, but that got me thinking about it) It's been three months, should a toe really take this long to heal? Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing?

A. Yes, toe nails take 3-4 months to grow out. i am a nail tech at a top spa. We see it all runners, ballerinas all sporto's hurt their toe nails. you may have damaged the nail bed, which could make your nail grow in funky, But if its just taking a long time to grow out, dont be alarmed. Toe nails can take 6 months to completely regrow from cuticle to the front of the toe. Patience, grasshopper!

How do I get rid of Toe Nail Fungus?
Q. I'm scared to take those pills that cure the fungus 'cause I heard It's really bad for the liver. Hey, I could live with toe nail fungus but I can't live without my liver. So, does anyone know of any home remedies to get rid of toe nail fungus?
Asked by Chica Loca - Wed Jul 30 18:54:04 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Home remedies can't cure toenail fungus. Your doctor can run tests to see if your liver is healthy. Treatment is at least 90 days and he can run a test after 30 and 60 days to catch anything before it gets bad. Liver damage is actually rare, especially if your liver is healthy. Explain your concerns to your doctor. There are treatments that make your fungus cosmetically more acceptable if you decide against medicines.

Q. Toe nail fungus makes toes so ugly. How can I get healthy and good looking nails? If possible, I would like to avoid medicine so if you know natural products, that would be great. Thank you.

A. I think you should give up on the all natural. Evidently, when you are feet are all natural they are funktastic. Maybe you should just cut the fungus out.

What do you do when you have ripped your big toe nail half way off?
Q. My daughter accidentally stepped on my foot ripping by big toe nail up at least half way down. It is throbbing with pain, when I push the toe nail back down to the toe it oozes a clear fluid what should I do?
Asked by Jaclyn S - Tue Jul 22 18:54:33 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your foot can take care of itself. Wrap it up a bit - put some neosporin if you are concerned. The nail will either come off or not - you'll know in a couple weeks. Keep your daughter from stepping on your foot for a while.

What does it mean when half of my toe nail is brown/black?
Q. It happened after i played basketball one day. It dosnt hurt anymore and it dosnt look infected. But half of my toe nail is brown/black. It been brown/black for about 1 month and dosnt look like its going away. What does this mean? How does it heal? Will it eventually go away? Do I need to see a doctor? what should i do?
Asked by unbreakable0311 - Tue Apr 17 17:54:01 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It sounds like someone stepped on it while you were playing or your toe was jammed up in the toe box of your shoe. It is bruised. It will have to grow completely out. This will take months, but you will notice the brown/black part getting higher and higher towards the tip of your toe as it grows. Eventually, when you trim your toenails, you will cut the damaged part off. Keeping your toenails trimmed and make sure your shoes fit properly can help.

A. the same thing is happening to me right now . i'm on a pill antibotic. but if you just soak your feet in warm water twice a day to soffen the skin, then put on neosporin or something that works like neosporin after you soak your feet, it will also heal that . just wait till your nail grows out and don't pick or clip your toenails.! it wil make it worse! haha im such a hypocrit.

A. Maybe some hydrogen peroxide will help. But it's not a big deal. As your toenail grows, this one will eventually fall off, or you could trim it as it gorws. Don't worry.

What should I do to reduce the pain on my toe and toe nail when going on pointe?
Q. I have been only been on pointe for one year and I have a very low arch. This past week I have been dancing a lot and my toe nail and toe hurts so so much. It is the only part of my foot that hurts too! What should I do to stop the pain??? oh I recently cracked one of my toe nails but it is almost healed i dont know if that would be a factor but my other toe nail which is not cracked hurts so much
Asked by Readingirl - Fri Aug 14 19:35:42 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the most important thing to remember when doing pointe ballet is to cut your toenails regularly. not only can it crack if you go on pointe too much but also it can lead to ingrown toenails which can hurt a LOTTT to fix believe me!!! i had to deal wiht the same thing at one point so here is what i did: 1. ice your foot where it hurts after practice 2. elevate the foot that hurts while you RELAX (i would put ice on the toe and elevate it on a chair while i did my homework) 3. be careful not to stub the toe or wear hard shoes (if the weather is nice wear flip flops so the toe is open and can "breathe" (helps it heal faster) 4. limit your practice time as much as possible 5. if you dont already have a toe pad GET ONE!! 6. just take it easy… [cont.]

How do I get rid of ingrown toe nail when you can't get to the part that is ingrown?
Q. Both my big toes have ingrown nails and the nail already goes pretty far into my toe even when it's not ingrown so I can't even get close to the ingrown part. Hydrogen proxcyde dosen't seem to be helping with the infectoin. My mother and brother have had the same thing happen just not as bad and were able to get rid of it over a few years but nothing seems to work for me.

A. soak in hot water and epsom salts. Gently push the skin away from the toe. Do this continually to ease the pressure. You can buy solution at the pharmacy to dissolve the embedded nail.

Is there an over the counter numbing medicine that could be used on an ingrown toe nail?
Q. My son has an ingrown toe nail and he is wanting to fix it his self but he wants to numb it first. Is there any over the counter meds that can do this? Can he soak his foot in epsion salt? What can help with this? It is really painful and has been bleeding but he doesn't want to go to the doctor for this.

A. I don't know of anything that will numb his toe, but if he is going to treat it himself, don't let him cut the corner of the nail off. Doing that will temporarily relieve the pain but will lead to another ingrown toenail in no time. I have had these before and read about what to do - I tried it and it worked. What he needs to do is soak his foot in warm water for about 15 minutes to soften the nail. Then he needs to use something small (one side of a pair of tweezers, a nail pick, toothpick, anything that will work) to pull the corner of the nail up and out of the skin (might be a little painful). Then he needs to take a very, very small amount of cotton and wedge it under that corner of the nail so that it holds the nail up and out of… [cont.]

Is there anything to do for an ingrown toe nail?
Q. I have an ingrown toe nail and its gotten really bad. Its super sensitive. What can i do for it?
Asked by aLeX - Fri Dec 18 23:54:29 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Take a pair of toenail clippers and clip a "V" shape into the middle of your toenail (not in the middle of the toe, but the middle of the edge of your nail). This will force the nail to grow together, pulling the edges towards the middle and out of your skin. You can also get tea tree oil, which is a natural antibacterial/antifungal, and drop a few drops on the infected area 2-3 times a day. That is what I do whenever I get an ingrown toenail or any other minor infection on my body, and it always clears it up within a few days. Tea tree oil is expensive but a little goes a long way, so a small bottle will last you a while. It's also all-natural so it's good for you and you don't have to worry about developing antibiotic-resistant… [cont.]
