What staples to use for an old stapler without size requirements?
Q. I found a really old stapler in my attic but don't know what staples it uses. It says "use only A-910, A-912 or A-914 staples". I doesn't say anything about the size. I think the brand is Apsco. Any ideas on what to use? Thanks

A. A-910?sounds like a very small piece of paper to me.Maybe it's a small stapler used for a small paper.

How do you make a Stapler shoot a Staple?
Q. In all the movies and TV shows people open a stapler and squeeze it and it shoots a staple, I know how to shoot it but whenever Ido the staple only goes a few inch's. I just want to know how to make the staple fly across the room or something.

A. Like you said its a movie, unless you get a very strong stapler which probably don't exist.

Where can I find an apholstery stapler thats not too expensive?
Q. I am looking for a simple apholstery stapler that dosen't need an air compressor for usability. I need to staple down inside a narrow ridge, so the flat staplers will not work for this. Where can I buy one?

A. Arrow makes an electric staple gun that also shoots brads. They start at around $20 and are very handy to have around the house. As a professional upholsterer with over 20 years experience I can tell you that tacks are not the way to go. They don't hold as well as staples, they are much harder for an amateur to use, and you have to buy a magnetic hammer (about $8-$10) or have 3 hands. Oh, and the hammer is almost worthless for anything except upholstery tacks.

How do I refill staples into the "Boston 135 heavy duty stapler"?
Q. I have a Boston Heavy Duty Stapler at my office and I have never had to refill the staples. There is no blatantly obvious way to refill as with other staplers. Any ideas on how these things work?
Asked by jbairdfau - Mon Nov 27 11:09:20 2006 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Yeah, a friend had one of those. Um... let me see how to explain it... Well, the staples load from the rear. At the base of the big handle, there should be a tab or black plastic thingie there (yeah, I know...so technical). Just pull it straight back. Directly back from the handle all the way out and put some staples in. Then, try to get the parts back on track and let it go. It has a spring that pulls everything forward. If that doesn't work, I must be remembering wrong.

A. You will need a staple gun of some sort- they have them at any hardware store and are not very expensive (I bought one when I was poor and in college and wasn't upset about the price even then!). Make sure you get one that uses staples that are long enough for your project, as they come in several different sizes, and remember to buy staples when you buy the gun! The more traditional styles have a lever that points back like this one: But I like this newer style where the lever goes forward like this one, as it's easier to squeeze, especially if you're using it repeatedly:

A. I do not where you live, but in KS. the cheapest place to go is JS supply,a contractors supply store that also sells to open public. So I guess I'm saying a contractors supply store that sells to the public. All hardware stores will special order anything, but WOW do you pay for it! Also a commercial lumber yard will order them for you, still the cheapest is a supply shop.

Does anyone know how to fix a jammed Swingline heavy duty stapler?
Q. It ran out of staples so we took the spring out and put more in (not too many), and now it seems to be jammed. When I push on it to staple something, it goes down to the point where I assume the staple is supposed to come out, and then nothing. We've taken the staples out and checked for jammed staples, and didn't find anything. Maybe it's just time for a new one?

A. Lumberg took my stapler and he never brought it back, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire... How do you keep a bunch of pages together without a stapler?
Q. I have a big stack of papers that I need to keep together and in order, but the stack is too big to staple together, so what's the best way to keep them together. I also want them to stay protected, not get bent or dirty or anything like that. I was thinking I should use a binder maybe, but wanted to see what you guys would say. Thanks.
Asked by zoocherry8 - Tue Aug 24 15:53:47 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are also various kinds of "pressure" folders or binders that work in different ways (those would also keep the pages clean). They have a separate spine that gets inserted over the fold of the folder and the left edges of the papers, or they'll have other pressure things to hold the pages in place. Check out the "presentation" folders at office supply stores, for example. Binders would be great too but you'll have to punch holes in all the pages to use them. There are also clips of all kinds (bulldog, etc), and you can I think pay Kinkos or another copy place to use a longer staple. Kinkos/etc will also make a "booklet" of the pages for you for not much money. You can choose the spine you want (wire spiral, or plastic "comb"… [cont.]

How much wind force would it take to fully compress a stapler?
Q. Ok, so here's a totally random question, but ya know when you're just falling asleep lying in bed, you think of the most random stuff. I know it's silly but I just figured I'd throw this out there.
Asked by rascal kid - Tue Dec 5 19:53:47 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't really have much of an opinion on that, but I can identify some of the problems. All the staplers I have ever seen require a downward force to compress them, while the wind is mostly a horizontal force and staplers require vertical force. However, if you place something like an empty soda bottle on the stapler and slowly fill it until the stapler compresses, then you can go weigh the soda bottle and its contents to find out the amount of force required. Next measure the width and length of the top of the stapler and multiply the two numbers. That will give you the number of square inches of area on top of the stapler. Divide that number into the weight of the soda bottle and you will discover the approximate amount of pressure… [cont.]

Q. I don't get this piece of junk. I popped them in the front, seemingly the ONLY logical way you can load it. But the gun just wont shoot the freaking staple.

A. I think there is a lever which has an arrow below the gun. You pull the lever away from you or the direction of the arrow. This should work

Q. A regular staple curves in, toward itself. What's the purpose of the one that curves out?
Asked by downrightdoomsday - Sat Nov 17 22:06:40 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When you rotate the metal base around so you may staple with the legs folding out, it is called pinning. It works like a safety pin to hold objects in place temporarily. For instance you can use it to staple up the hems on your skirt or pants prior to sewing. The main advantage is that the ends of the stapler do not dig into the material like they do when you use the stapler the normal way.
