A. honestly it would be better to buy a new one... they don't really cost that much anymore. but... try to open it up and clean the lens some moisture or dust might of gotten it is all.. but if that don't work I'd recommend getting a new one because the inside of an inter lens is so small its really hard to work on

How must will it cost to fix a jammed camera lens?
Q. I still have warranty on it. It's only been 13 days since I bought it and the lens already got jammed. It's my fault because I was taking a picture and I set it on top of the desk and when I pressed the button it started wobbling and when I turned, it fell and the lens got hit. It was a total accident. The warranty says that it doesn't cover accidents, so I was wondering how much it will cost. It's a Nikon Coolpix S230.

A. your camera doesn't work good now because of a broken lens. if you still have your warranty, you should order the same camera. but if your camera isn't that great, don't get the same camera. Go to a nearby electronics store like Best Buy. i would recommend you buying a Nikon or a Canon. They're both great cameras. they're around $120-$500

A. Say so-long to the Samsung and start shopping for a new camera. Even if it's under warranty, the warranty will not cover abuse.

A. Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try: If you get it to respond, and if next the lens doesn't want to retract:

A. You cannot fix it. Frequently on these pages I see people saying the lens mechanism is stuck and the answers from the experts are always to take it in for service. This seems to happen a lot. The question you need to ask yourself is if you want to upgrade or not. Your camera is only a 4mP sensor with only 3x zoom. This is okay but new cameras are offering a lot more. Go to the Olympus website and send a message to their customer service. Maybe they can give you some idea of the cost to fix it. Good luck.

Q. The smaller lens got stuck upwards when my friend sat on it with the lens open. Now I was able to fix the lens so it will go in and out (no longer stuck) but now it just turns on for a couple of seconds, beeps three times, and turns off. I tried charging it but nothing works. Can I fix it/buy a new one/get the Samsung warranty?

A. You will need to send the camera to either Samsung directly, or a repair shop. Cameras do not like getting sat on, and for the most part many point and shoots are fragile to the point of being ridiculous. To get the camera fixed, it will likely cost more than the camera is worth. This will not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. Those warranties only cover faulty manufacture or materials, not getting sat on. Samsung's techs will know what their cameras look like after they were sat on. They have likely seen enough of them to really know it immediately. Remember, Ford does not fix your car because you wrapped it around a tree. That's why we have insurance. If you buy your new camera from a larger electronics store, it may… [cont.]

A. You might try twisting and pressing the lens as it tries to close if it is stuck out. If it is stuck in then it needs repaired. Small gears inside operate the lens.

A. If after you have tried the three suggestions ahead and still failed, it would be best to buy a new one. Personally, I'm guessing a low power scenario here so I would go for a freshly fully charged battery. If this uses AAs, get some new alkalines to test it out otherwise, discharge then fully recharge to about 5 hours or whatever the manual says.

How can I fix my jammed camera lens? Please Help me!?
Q. O.k So I was recently over a friends house and we were playing and tackling each other. I'm not really sure was happened but I suspect that one of my younger friends jammed the lens, because there were only 3 people in the room, and me and my older friend were nowhere near it. Later I tried to turn on my Camera {Samsung BL 103} and it just made 3 beeping noises and shut off. Now I have admittedly dropped my camera multiple times and this has never happened. My parents would kill me if they found out its broken because I have had my phone and ipod stolen so they already think I'm irresponsible. but it wasn'T my fault!! Please help me find a way to fix it!! Thank you.

A. Camera reports batteries low, but is it low charge or bad electrical contacts? Overcharging can ruin good batteries! The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between batteries and camera. Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out. caution do… [cont.]

My Nikon Coolpix 775 has a problem! The lens jammed? Can anyone help!?
Q. I plugged it into the computer and turned it on. It turned on, and then I waited for the computer to detect it, but it didn't. So I turned it off and unplugged the camera, but even after turning it off, the lens didn't move back into place and close - it just remained as it was. I thought it was a battery problem so I replaced it and tried turning it off again. Nothing happened. It's like my camera lens just stopped - and the whole of my camera is not functioning? Anybody have any idea?
Asked by Sam - Mon Mar 20 13:27:56 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Sam, I scoured a few forums for (general) digital camera owners and photographers. The prognosis could be: a) the lens engine is damaged, or b) the lens engine ribbon has come loose. You have already done the instinctive thing by replacing the batteries but that is apparently not the issue. The site I consulted suggested to either fix the ribbon yourself (if you're the DIY kind of person) or send the camera back to Nikon (if it is still under warranty). I hope this helps.

Can Jammed Camera lenses be repaired?
Q. I have a kodak easyshare c875 digital camera and the lens is jammed (after dropping). it turns on, makes a small clicking noise then turns off.

A. Sorry to hear about your camera. I did the same thing to a Nikon a while back and tried several repair places. Most said it was not repairable but a couple said it COULD be repaired but that the repair would cost more than a new camera. The replacement camera I bought cost less than the excess on my insurance (so I didn't claim), had more functionality than the old one, and cost about a seventh of the price of the old one. It seems criminal to throw away a camera that is 90% still good but the economics just don't justify repair. Sorry.

The lens of my camera is jammed crookedly! :(?
Q. Okay, my camera is a Samsung ST50 and earlier today my friend wanted to see some pictures i had taken, so he took my camera and started looking at my photo's and he dropped my camera onto carpet, face down. When i got the camera back i looked at it and the lens was jammed, all the way out but on one side it was in a little bit. So now, when i press the 'power' button, you hear the motor trying to move the lens, then it fails so it sounds three beeps then turns completely off, with the lens still out and jammed. Is there anything i can do? And if i send it away to get fixed, how much might that cost? Thank-you in advance, anything will be very much appreciated; Katie. xo

A. Ouch, If you send it away its not going to be cheap, does your household insurance cover it? take the batteries out, so the motor does not get damaged. as the lens is out try gently pushing the lens the other way (the part that is higher than the other. you may find that it just pops back, you have nothing to loose. If it looks right pop the batteries back in and try again, if it works then turn it off and on a few times to see that it is freely moving, if not take/send it to be repaired, as JIH said get a quote first it may be cheaper to buy another one. I wish you luck RR
