How to safely remove a jammed adapter ring?
Q. I have a Canon Rebel XTI with the EF-S 18-55 mm lens it came with. Late last year, I purchased a wide angle/fish eye lens with an adapter ring to go on the lens that the camera came with, but after using it a few times, the lens adapter became jammed onto the 18-55 mm lens and I cannot remove it. Any suggestions to carefully remove the adapter ring as to not harm the lens? I really don't want to splurge $115 ( at the cheapest ) for a new 18-55 mm. Thank you for your time.

A. Take it to Ritz or Wolf or any other good camera store (not Best Buy or Walmart) and see if they can get it off for you. They might charge you to do it, but it shouldn't be very much. They have wrenches that can be used on lenses.

How long does it take for a jammed finger to heal?
Q. About three months ago, I jammed a finger by trying to catch a bouncing spare-tire and it still hurts. Plus, it is easily reinjured. I can really feel it when "barring" strings on my guitar.

What is the best solution for a jammed finger?
Q. I play basketball a lot and I jammed my finger about 3 years ago. I thought it would heal itself but it is still swoll in the middle. I pull it all the time but it doesn't do anything. Should I splint it because I'm still actively playing and I dont feel like playing with a slint on my finger. Is there any other solution?
Asked by COOKIE MONSTER XD - Mon Feb 27 16:45:08 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The only way to have it heal completely is to rest it, but that won't happen yet since you're active. To protect your finger, tape it up when you're playing. I think a split would hinder your play. When you're not playing, keep it splinted. You can take anti-inflammatory medicines like Advil. You could also ice your finger to prevent further swelling. This therapy is better than none.

What is the best thing to do for a jammed pinky finger?
Q. My son jammed his pinky finger, and it is causing him some pain. We iced it and gave him some Advil, and that helped. But, he has four baseball games this week, and would like to be able to play. Do you think this injury will hurt his game? He is a great player, one of the best on his team, and is worried that he will not be able to play up to his potential this week. Do you have any good ideas to speed up the healing process? Thanks in advance for your answers.

A. "RICE" is a very effective therapy. I've used it many times with great success in minimizing the amount of time to heal. R=Rest (Don't use the finger) I=Ice (Cold ice for 20-30m (as tolerated) every 2-4 hours) C=Compression (wrap the finger in a compressive sock or bandage; but make sure not to wrap it too tightly and cut all circulation. You can check this by pressing on the nail bed and pushing the blood out, then release and watch to see how long it takes to return. If capillary refill is 2 or 3 seconds, it is fine; but if it is longer or the finger starts to turn darker, release the dressing. E=Elevation (Keep the finger above the level of the heart to slow blood flow to the site) The goal is to minimize inflammation. Individual… [cont.]

How do I open a jammed tailgate in my truck?
Q. Hey everyone. I have a 2003 silverado and somehow my tailgate is jammed and does not open when I pull the release. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there anything I can do without having to pay $95 to the dealer just to look at it? Please give me some ideas, thanks.
Asked by tweek_8 - Mon Oct 1 16:10:29 2007 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Don't hit it or kick it or push it or pull it...this is an easy one! When you pull up on your handle, these two arms on the handle in turn push two levers, one lever will pull on the right side rod and the other lever will pull on the left rod. After time these levers start to get bent out of shape from use. Eventually, when you pull up on your handle to open your tailgate usually one of the levers is so bent that is doesn't fully pull the rod enough to release the latch. One side might release but not the other. So here's what you do---lift up on the handle about halfways and look up under there. You can see where the two rods (the ends are in an 'L' shape) are inserted into plastic nuts. You can now see when you lift up the handle… [cont.]

How do I get my jammed hood open on my 1996 Oldsmobille Cutlass Supreme?
Q. I was involved in a little fender bender (nothing serious) and my cars hood was jammed up. The interior release does not work and I have no idea how to go about fixing it. I want to do this job my self so do not tell me to goto a mechanic. What is the best way to fix this problem?

A. The inside hood release has a cable running to it that actually props the hood up. Find that cable and give it a good tug with some pliers. If that doesn't work the first time, I would recommend using a pry bar to loosen the hood from some of the other boby panels that it may have gotten stuck to. Good luck.

How do I get through a door with a jammed knob?
Q. I went to turn the basement door handle the other day and while the actual knob turned, the door did not open. Turns out, it was jammed. All of our tools are in the basement and the only other ways in are locked with long gone keys. We unscrewed the doorknob exposing the inner mechanism but we still can't figure out how to get it un-jammed.

How do you fix a jammed electric pencil sharpener?
Q. I have an X-acto Model 41 Heavy Duty electric pencil sharpener. It sharpens only partway, which tells me that there is something jammed into the "point" of the sharpener preventing the pencil from sharpening all of the way. I can't figure out how to get in there and clear it out!
Asked by artgirl - Tue Oct 10 13:39:48 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First make sure it's unplugged. Next, remove the shaving cup and take a look at the cutter. If you can see the broken piece of pencil in there take a paper clip or small knife and try to slide it out. If that doesn't work, try sticking a long pin through the hole into the broken piece and see if you can pull it out. If that don't work, you'll either have to take the thing apart or get a new one. Don't stick your finger in there, that's a bad idea even if the thing is unplugged. Depending on the type of cutting tool inside you could still cut yourself.

How can I open the jammed head of my colour cartridge to get it refilled?
Q. I understand there are three holes in the colour cartridge from where the inks flow and one of the holes of my colour cartridge is jammed and the ink does not flow from it. I want to get it refilled. Could you advise me what should I do to open the third hole of the cartridge?
Asked by Paresh P - Sat Aug 25 23:20:38 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Rub the print head gently with a tisse dampened with rubbing alcohol. Many refil kits include a "cleaning solution" bottle with their ink. That cleaning solution is just rubbing alcohol. Depending on the depth of the clog, you may have to soak the print head in the solution for a few minutes. Try the above and then run the cartridge through the head cleaning on the printer. A few turns at each item should open it up.

Q. I have a Dell All-In-One 924 Printer. It displays a error message: "Clear paper jam. Press > (Start) botton to continue." The problem is that there are no papers jammed in the printer and pressing the > (Start) botton changed nothing. The error message is still there. What should I do?

A. Best thing to do is take the toner out, sometimes the paper can be stuck under there, also although you can not see the paper jam look very closely where the ink goes and see if its there. After that unplug the power from the back on the printer (do not just turn the printer off, you have to take the power cord out) after its out for about 60 secs, plug the printer back in and see if the paper jam has been cleared. -Reggie

What is the exact meaning of "back becoming jammed"?

A. Sounds like he was referring to spinal column compression. If you hunch over alot and don't stand up straight, you are allowing the flow of spinal fluid on the front of the spine to run freely but cutting off the supply on the back of your spine where your back is located. Spinal fluid lubricates the spinal column on both sides. (something that most people don't know:o) When you are born, you are really flexible because there is plenty of spinal fluid abound. You also have a natural 'S' curve. As you age and hunch over alot, you lose the 'S' curve and the supply of spinal fluid the spine gets restricted. Stretch as much as possible. Lay down on the floor occasionally. I like to roll a towel up and place it just above my hips. (laying… [cont.]

A. this is going to sound gross, but either you, or get some one else to pull it out. It wil hurt for a second, but the swelling and the pain will go away. The joint jammed so pulling it out will help.

My printer keeps saying that it has jammed paper even though there isnt any. How can i fix that?
Q. My printer is a Canon MP160. Everytime i try to print something it keeps saying it has jammed paper. I tried looking into the slits but there is no paper whatsoever inside the printer. I already tried pressing that button, but it doesnt do anything. Im perplexed. I do not know what to do. I need any kind of suggestion or help, I am really dependent on my printer.

A. The printer detects jams through the use of switches. The paper feeds and hits the first switch telling the printer that the paper hopper has paper in it. It then looks for a second switch to be tripped to verify that the paper has fed in. Somewhere in that process your printer is failing. It could be a small scrap of paper, a stuck switch, paper chafe (dust), a disconnected switch cable or a faulty controller circuit in the printer. Someone has to poke around and determine which it is.
