How to replace interior bulb and license plate bulbs on 06 350z?
Q. How do I get my interior headlamp case off to change the bulb? And how do I change the bulbs for the license plate?
Asked by Joey - Sat Jul 18 01:34:06 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Tools required: Finger pop each cover off just as you would as a battery cover. (both latches on right side) pull out assembly, and simply twist and disconnect the light from the cover. Pull out old bulb. pop new ones in, before you put the cover back on and pop it back in, be sure to test first if the lights illuminates but switching your lights on. If it doesn't then switch with the other LED.

What causes a light bulb to explode in a thunderstorm?
Q. "Short circuit of sorts. The light bulb must have over heated by a sudden rush of energy causing it to burst. Though the other lights just went out because the burst of energy only needed one main exit to exclude its energy. Thus the light bulb bursting. Well that's what I think". <--- that is my friends sight on why a light bulb explodes we just wanted to know if it was true or if you could give us knowledge on the subject.
Asked by Maylett91 - Sat Jul 18 13:50:48 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are mostly correct. If there is a surge in electricity then this will over heat the filament in the light bulb and causing it to fail. But causing it to shatter is very rare. It does happen though. As soon as the filament fails then the electricity is turned off because the circuit is broken. The air pressure answer is incorrect. If that was the case then you could not purchase any light bulbs in the city and then take them up to your cabin at 6,000 feet in the mountains as all the bulbs would break. And your household light bulb is a vacuum, no air inside so the filament will last longer.

How remove damaged bulb from ceiling fan?
Q. I have a hampton bay ceiling fan with a bulb base stuck in it. I took the glass bulb off and attempted to unscrew it with a pliers but the metal is so soft that is just bends in and does not give me a grip to unscrew this base of the bulb. So now the metal is all bent in the fixture. How do I get this out of the fan fixture? Do I drill into it? and then how turn the bulb base to unscrew it? My concern about drilling in is that I might damage the fixture of the fan beyond the bulb base. Any suggestions?
Asked by Lighthearted - Thu Dec 6 10:52:32 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First turn off ALL power to the light fixture. I know you will get the suggestion to use a potato, and that's just silly. I have found that using a lineman's pliers, or any pliers you can jam into the base works the best. What you are trying to do is use the sharp edges or the pliers to grab the sides of the socket and turn it out. If that doesn't work, take a screw driver and gently pry the bulb base away from the fixture socket. Then use a needle nose pliers to curl the bulb base metal. It will probably break off, but keep going around the base removing more metal until it loosens. These can be a pain, but if you are patient, you will get it out.

How do I fix a light bulb that only works at a certain angle?
Q. I have a light fixture in the ceiling of my basement that was working fine until recently. Now the light bulb will not glow unless I manually push it in one direction. If I let the bulb go then the light turns off. I've tried different bulbs but the problem must be the fixture or the socket. Any ideas? Thanks!

How do I change a headlight bulb on a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass?
Q. I am trying to help a friend of mine change his headlight bulb (just the bulb, not the whole assembly). He has a 1997 Olds Cutlass, and we're not sure how to gain access to the bulb. The headlight assembly has metal plates behind it, so we don't have direct access to the bulb. I've never come across a vehicle that doesn't offere easy direct access to the bulb. I'm thinking we're going to have to pull the whole headlight assembly forward in order to get to the bulb, but we're not exactly sure how. Come to think of it, this also brings up the question: How many automotive novices does it take to change a headlight bulb? Thanks.
Asked by Alex - Sun Dec 10 18:14:52 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. On this car there is a bulkhead behind the headlight assembly which prohibits normal access to the bulbs. You need to remove the assembly from the front to get at the bulbs. This is actually pretty easy and should be described in your owners manual. If you don't have that just look for two plastic tabs that push down from the top to secure the headlight assembly in place. Pull those up and the whole thing should slide right out. Then just reach for the bulb, give it a little turn and pull it out.

Can one light bulb in a series of eight recessed lights cause a dimmer switch to stop working?
Q. I built a bulkhead above my kitchen counters and installed recessed lighting that runs off of an on/off switch with a dimmer control. After the first light bulb burned out, the dimmer function stopped working. Now they will only turn on and off, but not dim. Is this because of the burned out light bulb or is something wrong with the switch?
Asked by jDAGger - Sun Dec 16 09:42:54 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the lights are wired in series none of them should work at all if one is burned out or missing. If they are actually wired in parallel the dimmer should still be working.

Does a burned out bulb left in the socket continue to draw electricity?
Q. For cosmetic reasons, we've left the burned out bulb in the socket which raised the before mentioned question. We've loosened the bulb so there's no contact but we were just wondering about the possibility of "juice" still being drawn into the point of contact.
Asked by Vince T - Sat Dec 22 11:39:09 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No. When an incandescent bulb burns out or is removed from the socket no current can flow. If voltage or current equals zero no power is dissipated. P=EI If either E, voltage, or I, current, is equal to 0 the resultant power is 0 watts. Now if the bulb were a flourescent bulb then you might have a starting transformer, and then even if you remove the bulbs the transformer will continue to use about the same amount of power.

Can a light bulb be the answer to world energy?
Q. In France, they have a large array of reflective mirrors that focus the suns beams on a central point, generating heat and, thus, electricity. That got me to wondering... If I took a single light bulb and used magnifying glasses and mirrors and such, could I produce enough heat to, say, boil a small amount of water (producing steam)? Or how about this: Could I take that single light bulb and, using mirrors and magnifcation, light and entire home? a stadium? a city? That is, IF, IF, IF I could use fiber optics and so forth, just what could be done with a single light bulb? Is any of this possible? Could a single light bulb perhaps generate enough electricity to light itself, or at least offset some of the power usage? Thoughts?… [cont.]

Q. OK. I planted an onion bulb that started to grow in a basket. The onion was fully grown. Now, How do I know when to unearth it to get the final product? Will additional bulbs grow out of this one? What do I do with the flower that grew on the stem above ground?

A. wait until the flower dies this is when the onion is ripe and just dig up the bulb or leave it. You should be left with a couple of bulbs so you can keep some and plant others but they won't be like in the store they'll be smaller and look like a real off oval circle type thing.

How do light bulb life extenders work?
Q. There are discs that are placed between the bulb and the electrical source. What is the physics behind how they work?
Asked by Big Al - Tue Jun 27 18:32:42 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The extenders reduce the voltage that reaches the bulb. The bulb will not be quite as bright but will last longer because the element does not reach its rated temperature. You can buy "long life" bulbs which are rated for 135 volts, so when they are in a 110 voltage socket they work the same way.

How is the filament inside of a light bulb connected to the exterior of the light bulb?
Q. How is the filament inside of a light bulb connected to the exterior of the light bulb? Why can t one side of the filament be attached to one side of the thread and the other side of the filament be attached to the other side of the thread?
Asked by I Ask Questions :D - Fri May 30 20:28:57 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The threaded part of a light bulb is all metal. One end of the filament connects to the thread, while the other connects to a metal button on the very end of the bulb. If you screw a bulb in with a lamp that's on, the light won't turn on until the bulb is deep enough to the button to touch the lead at the bottom of the socket.
