Q. I have three broken toes, how do I quell the swelling so that I can fit them into my shoes? Pain is not an issue.

A. You did the right thing. Unless it is smashed, taping it to the next one is the right thing. Normally it heals in 4 to 6 weeks. I have always recommended cushioning with a piece of cotton between the toes.

A. that same thing happened to me! my toes were so hurt, but i could move them a little. i ended up going to the doctor and they said they were very badly broken,so yours could very well be! put alot of ice on it, and if it keeps hurting, go to the doctor! i hope it gets better :)

A. Oh ya, swelling in the calf area can put pressure on the nerves, I am guessing thier is nerve involement and not just residual pain becouse you say "burning", which is indicitive of nerve pain. As uncomfortable as it may be try using ice over your calf area, if you are not in a cast and keep your leg elevated when ever possible, if you are in a cast, still keep your leg elevated and use an anti inflamatory like Ibuprophin. Avoid using heat, it will just bring more blood to that area, which in turn causes more pressure and pain, also try wiggling your toes, this will help to circulate the inflamation that is in that area, but be careful not to do it too much, this will also cauese the muscles (gastrocnemius and anterior tibialus) to tighten… [cont.]

Q. One day i was walking and i hit the wooden box thingy at the bottom of the bed realy hard. When it happened it hurt like a B*T*H then stoped after 5 min. The next day i went to take a nap and the toes hurt when they touched the bed. They look the exact same as the other ones on the left foot. A. they're just putting a pin to help the bones heal straight... these all depends on where or how badly the bone is broken... healing make take a couple of weeks to month... once bone heals you will see the doctor again to have the pin taken out... you'll be fine

auditions with broken toes?

O.k, so I have an audition on Thursday, and today I think I may have broken some toes, but bottom line is, i can't walk. i don't know if ill be better by thursday, but at the audition we have to sing act and dance. would you cast me if someone auditioning for a school play could sing and act really well, but couldn't dance on that day due to broken toes? im sure ill be better by when rehearsals start. help!

A. It is possible if you have stamina and pain tolerance, but I surely wouldn't. Rest the injury, and it will heal faster. On the contrary, overuse the injury and it will hurt for a LONG time. Cheers, Matt
