Are Advil brands different in their formula?
Q. I know Advil and Ibuprofen are the same thing. However, I've taken the same dosage of Ibuprofen as I would Advil and it had no effect. I have also done the same with Advil Liquid Gels and they too had no effect. Brown Advil tablets usually do the trick. Is there any particular reason why brown Advil only works? PS. Please don't suggest to take Tylenol instead. It too does absolutely nothing.

Is it okay to take Advil while drinking?
Q. I know taking Tylenol when drinking can hurt your liver. Does anybody know about Advil? The bottle only says to be careful if you have more than 3 alcholic beverages everyday.
Asked by BNW88 - Thu Oct 4 01:51:21 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Never take Tylenol or Advilon a hangover. This is an excellent way to literally destroy your liver in a very short period of time. Tylenol and Advil are toxic to the liver. The enzymes that digests Tylenol or Avdvil is the same one that digests alcohol and it preferes alcohol. If you take Tylenol or Advil with alcohol in your system, the pain pills will linger in your system and wreak absolute havok on your vital organs. If you have to take a pain pill the morning after the only safe one to take is Aspirin. Hope this was help to ya.

What are the effects of taking Advil and Excedrin Extra Strength at the same time?
Q. My best friend just took 3 Excedrin and 2 Advil. Is this okay? She won't overdose right? Please any and all information is appreciated... ASAP!
Asked by alovelydayx3 - Mon Jan 4 19:36:13 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Don't freak out, unless any serious symptoms occur there is not need to go to hospital. Each tablet of Excedrin Extra Strength contains Acetaminophen 250 mg, Aspirin 250 mg and Caffeine 65 mg. The maximum dose of aspirin at one time 650 mg, which she only took slightly more. Normally a single dose of 6,500 mg or 150 mg/kg requires transport to hospital. The maximum dose of Acetaminophen at one time is 1,000 mg, she took less The amount of Caffeine taken is not really important, the dose is very small. Each Advil has 200 mg of ibuprofen and the maximum single dose is 800 mg, so she is under that. So there is a bit too much Aspirin but nothing else is high. It is not good to take all of those medications but the doses were not… [cont.]

A. Advil, Alleve and all other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that reduce pain can lead to ulcers when taken long term. Always consult with your doctor when taking medicine for prolonged periods of time.

A. It say's on the bottle how many you can take per day to be safe. As long as your not taking more than that you are fine. The FDA regulates this. They would not sell it over the counter if you could not take the recommended dose..

A. If I am thinking of the right commercial (themed after a camping trip), the song in the background is just a twelve bar blues progression in the key of E. Check out the song "Crow Jane" by Skip James. <-Youtube Video The chords to the main part of the song are E, B, A, A, E, B, E, B Watch the video and see if you can figure it out. Good luck. I hope this was the right commercial.

Are there any dangers in taking advil once a day for about a week?
Q. When I am on my period, I take advil once a day to help with bad pain and migraines. Is it dangerous to do this? Sadly, the pain is too intolerable (i have a special issue) and I can't help but take the pills to make the pain go away. I'm afraid about long term affects this may have on my body though.

A. If you are otherwise healthy, absolutely not. If you asked this question, I imagine you stay at or under the recommended limit for a 24 hour period. Just so you know the safe recommended 'maximum' daily amount of ibuprofen per 24 hours (daily) is 1200mg's (*Without doctors supervision*) -- This would obviously generally be 400mg's every 8 hours. Though you certainly don't *have* to take that much in a day, or 400mg at one time. It is perfectly fine to take 200mg twice a day, and so forth. It is quite common, under a doctor's supervision, for people to take 2400mg's per day, at 800mg TID. While the latter is generally safe for any healthy individual, due to ibuprofens reputation for uncommonly causing GI bleed,.. some minimal… [cont.]

What are the side affects if you mix Advil with caffeine tablets?
Q. I am doing research for a story I am writing and I am not sure if there are any side affects for taking Advil/Ibuprofen/Tylenol with caffeine tablets.
Asked by Syrup!!! - Thu Sep 24 10:58:14 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't think the side effects are different from what is listed on each package or any of the "migraine" products out there, like Advil Migraine(or one of the anti-inflammatory migraine pills) or Excedrin which is just aspirin, tylenol and caffeine combination. I have migraines and tried all of these products. The only side effects I've ever had with the combo products is a little stomach upset (might have been the headache though) and a rebound headache from all of the caffiene. To summarize read each package, then check a combo package and see how it compares.

How does medicine, like Advil, know how to target the pain spot?
Q. For example, I have a backache and not a headache, how does Advil target the particular pain spot? How does it work?
Asked by spReez - Tue Oct 23 11:06:40 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Advil and most other pain relievers are "non-steroidal antiinflammatory agents (NSAI)". These drugs work by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, the chemicals that create inflammation and soreness. So, the drugs do not target a particular organ or pain site. They just circulate in the blood, and whenever they come across a place where prostaglandins are being produced they decrease the prostaglandin production and hence the pain.

Can you mix an expired medicine for 8 and younger with Advil?
Q. My daughter is 12 and she took a Tylenol for kids that was 8 and younger and I was wondering if she could take an Advil after if the Tylenol didn't work. Thank you!
Asked by THERESA B - Sat Aug 22 00:40:26 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on how long it's been since you gave her the Tylenol. I would try to wait at least 3-4 hours. There is most likely some drug left, even though it's expired. You don't want to overdose a child on pain relievers/ fever reducers. It is good to switch off between Advil and Tylenol anyway, so as to not give too much of one or the other. Also, if a medicine is long expired, I wouldn't use it. Most likely it will just be ineffective, but some medicines can cause more harm than good if it's expired. Over time, chemical reactions can occur which convert the drug to another chemical, especially if it's a liquid medicine, which tend to be less stable than solid dosage forms like tablets. Anyway, I would wait a few hours between… [cont.]

Is Advil bad to take when you have a fever?
Q. I woke up with a 101 fever today. I know that a fever is the body's way of killing off whatever is making you sick. Advil reduces the fever so I'm wondering if by taking it, it just prolongs the sickness.
Asked by Rod - Fri Mar 6 11:18:28 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm struggling w/ the same question with my little one and i found this answer: "Since fever is part of the body's defense against bacteria and viruses, some researchers suggest that the body may fight infections more effectively when its temperature is elevated. (Bacteria and viruses prefer an environment that's around 98.6 degrees F, or 37 degrees C.) A fever also tells the body to make more white blood cells and antibodies to fight the infection." I also read that unless your fever is too uncomfortable or super-high, then sometimes it's better to let your body fight off the infection on its own. If you bring it back down the bacteria or virus can spread more!
