How can I fix my part-broken toe nail?
Q. I have partly broken my big toenail -it is broken about halfway across, about halfway down the nail. It is not painful, but I would like to prevent it catching on things. Although it is my real nail, can I stick it back on with nail glue? Thank you!

A. Yes, I just repaired a tear in a real nail with glue!

Q. my baby always have broken nail, sometimes if we don't notice my baby already take out then it hurt her
Asked by cherrylyn t - Mon Oct 22 21:21:45 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well, sometimes if you put a band-aid on it, kids think it is better. Even when my cousins were one, we put a band-aid on someone who was hurting. They'd feel better and then the other ones would want one (triplets, now 4). I don't know, because every baby is different. Sometimes you can bite them off, instead of trimming them (I've never done that, but my aunt did). There's not much you can do for a really little baby, but for maybe 18 months+ it may work. Good luck!

does a broken toe nail heal itself?
Q. i dropped a heavy item on my toe.it cracked the nail down to halfway.i dont want to test and see if it will come off.would i be better of leaving it there to protect my toe.or do i just remove it.what will be better in the long run?
Asked by Angela M - Mon Jan 12 18:47:08 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Don't remove it! During war that was a form of torture - pulling out nails. Trim it and/or file it short. Apply either an acrylic resin fill, found at drug store, or Sally Hansen Miracle Cure or OPI Nail Envy, nail glue or similar products designed to repair nails. Add a top coat and/or polish plus top coat and in time it'll grow out as good as new, unless the nail bed has been damaged beyond repair. If you can't do repair on your own, go get a professional pedicure and let them fix it. They'll use glue and/or acrylic resin to join break and the pedicure will feel great.

Repair a broken toe nail?!?
Q. I stubbed my toe the other day and it is now cracked 3/4 of the way down my toe nail and 3/4 of the way across so it is basically just hanging there. I do have a band-aid on it now to prevent it from falling off but is there anything I can do to keep it attached? I have to dress up for work and usually wear open toe shoes in the warmer months. Has anyone had this happen and does it hurt when it falls off?
Asked by kylan127 - Mon Aug 17 19:32:39 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, i've had the same thing happen to me before. Get some nail care glue you get at the drugmart, nail pusher, tea bag paper (but don't need the leaves) or maybe coffee filter paper might work too. Put some of the nail glue on the nail, cover with enough paper and smooth the paper on to the nail. Use the nail pusher to help smoothen tea bag paper onto the nail so that the nail comes together and hold it together. Let the nail glue dry. The nail glue will harden with the teabag paper and keep your broken nail intact. Let it grow out on its own. Or if you don't care, you could just snip as much off. Edit: It only hurts when you yank/pull on the loose nail. If you don't want it to hurt if you decide to pull it off, just put some ice… [cont.]

What am I supposed to do for a VERY painful broken toe nail, and possibly ingrown nail?
Q. I know this is totally disgusting, but I need help pronto. A heavy guy accidentally stomped on my foot during New Year's Eve, and that combined with walking all over the place in heels totally did a number on my toe, and when I got home it was cracked. It was hurting last night, but then in the middle of the night it started to THROB. It now looks like it's going to fall off, and even weirder is it looks like I have something growing into the side of my toe, like an ingrown nail. I can't wake my mom up about this because it's so late, and I don't know what to do. It's all swollen, and it's just so sore. I dance en pointe and have had injuries before, but never like this, and I'm worried about the pain and how long it will take to heal. … [cont.]

A. When it comes to this type of injury, there are no helpful tips. Only common sense. If you have hydrogen peroxide, pour it on the injury until it stops fizzing. This will prevent infection. If you don't have hydrogen peroxide, use soap and water. Just make sure it's very clean, and then go to a foot doctor.

My dog has a badly broken nail?
Q. i woke up this morning and noticed my dog has a broken toe nail. there is a large piece bent to one side, i can see the quick and some dry blood. i've already cleaned her paw up but should i remove the hanging piece? it's not very loose and i'm afraid to try and take it off in case i hurt her or it starts bleeding again. she doesn't seem to be in any pain right now..but what do i do about it?

A. Ouch! Poor baby. Just imagine catching a torn nail on something, it would be very painful. I suggest trimming it as far back as you can with nail trimmers. From there you can take a nail file and smooth the edges. Do not just rip the broken part off, it would be very painful for her and you'd probably set yourself up for a lifetime of trouble when it came to messing with her feet. Dogs remember these things and many of them don't like to have their feet touched to begin with. Should you have anymore bleeding, you can put regular cornstarch on it. This will help it clot quickly. If you are truly unsure about it, take her to the vet. Best of luck with your girl!

My 2 years old boy's toe nail is falling off. What should I do ?
Q. My little kid broke his toe nail a few weeks ago under a door. Since than the nail deformed and now it is about to fall. I can not see any new nail under the old one growing. What should I do ? Should I cut the nail ? Should I leave it and bandage the toe ? It is possible that no new nail will grow ? Thanks

A. It will fall off on it's own. If it bothers him you can clip it, otherwise just try to leave it be. You can put a bandaid on it to keep it from snagging and pulling if it's still a little attached. He will be fine. Kids lose nails all the time. I just answered a question earlier today just like yours, and my own children have had it happen as well. It's really not a big deal. When it does come off, you may want to keep a bandaid on it for a couple days because the area can be a little tender. Hope this helps.

Can a (totally) broken of fungus nail grow back on its own?
Q. If a toe nail is totally broken off, because of fungus can it still grow back? It looks horrible, becaus all that grows back is little white pieces, that eventually grow a nail but the nail breaks off because its not attached strongly to the skin. According to the doctor "I can live without my toe nail" but I CAN'T!!! He also said there are some medicine I can take, but they are usually not reimbursed bij the insurance. Plus they are very expensive. Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of it?

A. i think that the best thing to do IF your toe still hurts by the night of the concert is that you wrap your toe in gauze and go on crutches that way ppl are aware that u are injured on ur foot and would be more careful around you AND yea i kno thats a bad idea bcuz u wanna have the most fun and crutches are stupid or something BUT would u rather go on crutches and have fun OR go and put urself in danger possibly get stepped on quite a couple of times n then be in more pain after wards and possibly hurt your toe more I would take the crutches :]

A. Strongly suggest you see your physician. A broken toe nail does have an entry for bacteria and in turn an infection. Your Physician will make the decision on whether to give you an antibiotic, remove the nail etc.,

Q. after countless pedicures, my toe nails are destroyed (dried, cracked and yellow) I want to spend the summer letting them grow out and make them pretty again. so i am taking a break from nail polish. but the thing is, they look hideous. what should i do to cover them up and make them look pretty without continuously destroying them with nail polish?

A. Hi, My only suggestion is to buff your nails. But one of those big cushion like block files the salons use and buff your toes. After buffing your toesies soak them in warm and soap. Give them a good scrub with a brush to remove and residue. Once you towel dry you should see a difference right away. They are probably discolored because the polish isn't allowing your nails to "breathe" This doesn't mean you have to give up on nail polish just yet.. try my suggestion. If this doesn't work i would definitely see a doctor just to make sure infections aren't present due to unsterilized pedicure tools etc... Hope it works out! ~M

A. I had a dog that did this. I had one of thise "Kuranda" (a square or rctangular shaped bed made out of PVC pipes and wire mesh with a coating on it) type\knock off brand pet beds in the back her kennel to lay up on, and she like to dig at it while she was standing on it to try and flip it over. She had put a lot of holes in the material by doing this, and eventually she got her toenail caught while I was gone. I came home to a bloody kennel, and one embaressed looking dog. The blood was thankfully dry, and it looked like she had licked at the broken toenail and naturally stopped it from bleeding or it stopped on its own, I wasn't sure. I went ahead and called and took her to the vet, and they had to trim it way back. They said she… [cont.]

Cracked toe nail (dog)?
Q. My little black Dane has a cracked and broken toe nail. The quick is showing but not bleeding. Its cracked all the way up to the skin. Its tender to the touch, since he won't really let me touch it. He's from a rescue, so I'm wondering if poor diet has had anything to do with this...he was really underweight when I got him. What can I do? Is a vet trip really necessary? I'll go unless there is something I can do for him. Like if I broke my nail, I wont run off to the salon to have it fixed. It should grow out right?? Let me know what I can do Ok, that makes me ask another question? If its not bleeding/ open can they still get it infected? He doesnt lick it, he doesnt really notice, except when I try to look at it. I read… [cont.]

Help, my little toe's nail is going to break off! How should I take care of it?
Q. I noticed today that my toenails all look quite unhealthy, is there any vitamins or food that I need to eat to prevent unhealthy nails? Also, my little toe's nail is beginning to break off! It is probably due to basketball. Will it grow back? It hurts when I bend the nail. How should I take care of it? Thank you

A. You probably have a lack of vitamins in your system, A, B, C, also calcium and protein. Try a 1 a day vitamin. As far as your pinky toe nails, they'll grow back, use a toenail clipper and clip them down to where they don't hurt anymore.
