How do I configure a wireless router with wired connection to PS3 so other wired computers remain stable.?
Q. I have Trendnet wireless router with 2 wired computers, 1 wireless laptop set up and working great---but---. Now I connect PS3 wired to the router and the wired computers keep getting kicked off the router but only while PS3 is being used online. Wireless laptop works with no problems. Someone suggested opening certain ports on router to accommodate PS3, but which ones? Trendnet support does not know solution. Thanks for help.

A. Similar to getting decent performance for Xbox on local network: Try setting the PS3 to a static local IP address, then on your router, specify the PS3 address as the DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone). This should get decent performance for the PS3, and relieve the router of having to check traffic to/from that address. That should help the poor little processor in the TrendNet to serve other clients properly. Also, check the cables are all in good shape and the same pinouts. Sounds like there might be a crossover cable somewhere, or something non-standard.

My Linksys keeps saying that I'm connected when i'm not and/or it cant find an IP address. What should I do?
Q. I have wireless internet in my house. We use linksys to connect us to what i think is called the router? I have installed this wireless connection into my computer and reinstalled it several times. Two occurances follow: 1. It says i'm connected [with very good signal] but i'm really not connected to the internet. OR 2. It won't allow me to connect or has "Limited or No Connectivity". When i choose to repair, it says it cannot because it fails to "Renew the IP address", and i need to contact my ISP. Right now it has "Low" connectivity...I don't why but i'm connected, so i thought i shoudld ask this question before i got kicked off again. please help.

A. Okay so here's what you need to do: Go to start, Run, type in cmd (return) to get to a dos prompt. do "ipconfig". check and make sure that you have an IP address and that your default gateway is set to 192.168.1.1 If it is not, you have a hardcoded default gateway left in your machine and you need to get rid of it so DHCP in your new router can send you the right one. If you need to delete it it's under network connections, under your wireless card, properties, TCP/IP properties, advanced. If you then have a correct default gateway, try pinging it from that dos prompt>ping 192.168.1.1. If thats not it, check that your cables are in good. If you are connected now, but you were not able to pull an IP address from the router, is it… [cont.]

Why does my router kick me off the internet after about 10-15 mins?
Q. I have a 54 MBPS wireless USB Stick netgear wg111 2.0 Recently I had a virus on my computer. My anti-virus program deleted the virus successfully. Nevertheless, I think the virus may have damaged my wireless connections somehow. After the virus was deleted I had to restart my computer and when I logged back into my windows account my internet turned off the first minute that I went to google.com. I think my router may have somehow blocked me because it knows there is something on my computer that may be harmful to the users that also use the network. My router is not a neatgear router. It is a 2WIRE 2701 HG-B router. Now every time I restart my computer I can only use the internet for about 2 minutes until the router kicks me off… [cont.]

A. check signal strength if bad move closer or think about an additional access point. make sure noone else is on your network and i would think about just totally reinstalling software and drivers for that wireless usb device. you are correct it may have corupted the files when it got that virus. goodluck!

My computer is always disconnecting me from my wireless network - how do I fix this?
Q. We have 2 PCs in our office, one which is hardwired and has the modem and router hooked up to it, and mine which connects to the internet wirelessly. My internet connection used to stay on all the time, but now if I leave it for about a half hour, I come back to it and it's kicked me off the network. Also my mouse is frozen on the screen and it makes a sound like it's disconnecting and reconnecting an external device. The mouse wakes back up after a minute and I can log back onto my wireless network. I thought the problem may be security (b/c we weren't using any) so I enabled (I believe) a WEP code. This didn't help either. Another problem I have is that I can't get the 2 computers on a home network so that I can use another… [cont.]

A. It sounds like you changed a setting on your computer to make it go into standby mode after being inactive for 30 minutes. When this happens, your PC tries to turn off your network adapters and peripherals and go into sleep mode. In your situation, it sounds like it's trying to go into sleep mode, but is failing half-way through the process and causing all kinds of trouble. I suggest increasing the time period to something like 2 hours instead of 30 minutes -- or just disable the feature completely.

Problems with PS3 and 360 internet connection?
Q. I have a PS3 and a 360. When I connect to the internet one system always kicks off the other. As well as kicks the computer off line. Which cause me to unplug the internet and replug it to get a signal again. I've tried changing the IP address of the systems but it still happens. I have a Linksys Wireless G 2.4GHz however I have them wired to the router. Any tips on what I can do to stop them from disconnecting the computer, the other system and the internet? Edit: Also I have a Wii but it never kicks the other systems off line. I don't use it much but when its online and another system is online they seem to 'get along.' Edit: The order I have to turn on the systems to prevent them from kicking the other off line is: PS3, 360,… [cont.]

Why does my xbox 360 randomly disconnect?
Q. I'm playing halo 2, and it says "cannot connect to xbox live, would you like to start the troubleshooter?" (kicking me off of the server), and i start the troubleshooter and there's nothing wrong. I have a cable connection, the cable goes to the modem, to the wireless router. The wireless router is connected to my xbox 360 and my computer. Once I try to sign back in it lets me do it immediately but it always quickly signs me out again.

A. XboxLive is very unreliable now due to all the people on. Also, you probably have a weak connection to your router. try changing the frequency, or move closer.

Is there any way I could limit one of my computer's bandwidths/make it slower?
Q. I have 3 computers: 2 Laptops and 1 desktop. All three are connected to the internet wirelessly. I was wondering if there is ANY way to slow down the desktop or to limit its bandwidth. The reason why is because my Sister tends to kick me off while im on it and it makes me lag because she hogs all the bandwidth. So, is there any way to make the Desktop slower/ limit its bandwidth when she goes on? I have a Windows Computer with a belkin N wireless router. Btw, i really hate her. so if I cant limit the bandwidth, how can I make it REALLY slow when she goes on? And no I will not just disconnect the desktop from its connection cause I dont want her to get suspicious.

A. If you REALLY hate your sister that badly, just pay the money to have a new line installed, and use that one for yourself exclusively. I'd say for some serious hatred, it would be worth the money.

Connecting to XBox Live at Hilton hotel?
Q. In short, our house flooded, so I'm stuck at the Hilton here for approx. 2 months from an unkown start date. I want to play on xbox live, yet I can't hold a connection for very long. Here's the technical situation: **I have Windows XP** First off, I got rid of my previous connection bridge and created a new one between my ethernet connection to the xbox and the Hilton's "hhonors" internet. Within the "details" under the support tab of this bridge is the following information: IP Address: 172.16.1.66 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 172.16.1.1 DHCP Server: 172.16.1.1 DNS Servers: 12.127.16.67 12.127.17.71 Thus I plugged this info into my xbox, setting my xbox's unique ip address to: 172.16.1.69 This allows me… [cont.]

A. Sounds like this is a wireless router you are using connecting to two computers. Cable does go out once in awhile, nothing to do about that. Wireless signals are really weak radios that can be blocked by walls, floors, heating ducts, refrigerators, wireless 2.4ghz phones (which use the same bands) and other wifi networks in your neighborhood. Sometimes if I am standing between the computer and the router I loose signal strength. Also water (rain snow etc) can absorb the signal. Consider the location of the router and the computers. Also the router can work on channels 1-11. Try other channels. A program Stumbler from shows what networks are in range. Choose a channel that none of them use.
